What is Kundalini energy, yoga and why does that word intimidate me?

Kundalini energy is the creative potential of humanity. It is a very powerful energy that lies dormant at the base of our spine, and when we do yoga, meditations, chanting, mantra, ritual, it can awaken the kundalini energy which has the potential to put us in to a very high state of consciousness where we expand in to causeless joy, bliss & connection.


When the Kundalini energy is active, it changes our perspective and everything feels more connected, the senses are heightened and we begin to see the positive in everything. It is very important to do something every day that activates the Kundalini energy so that on a regular basis, this energy is coursing through the body.mind.spirit activating all of the energy centers (chakras) and nadis (channels) bringing more light, Grace and Sacredness to your entire being. 

 

I started practicing Kundalini Yoga about 7 years ago when all of my old practices were seemingly no longer serving me. I felt dry, bored, as if all my years of practice and studying were no longer supplying the nourishment I felt my heart.body.mind.spirit needed. And that is when I found Kundalini Yoga! Quickly after starting this practice, I realized I had always been looking for something that was going to ignite me from the inside out as opposed to outside in. So many of my other physical practices/exercises were about the external “look” and I never felt I quite hit the mark.

 

Yet when I began to practice Kundalini yoga, I realized that there was this inner strength, beauty, radiance that was shining from my insides…not from anything I was trying to change externally. It was a game changer and I’ve been hooked every since. 

 

Nothing to be afraid of ~ if you are someone that is here to help shift consciousness (which I believe we ALL are), then you’ve gotta check out Kundalin Yoga. It’s a super power!

Yogi Bhajan, who brought Kundalini Yoga to the west says, "You are as young as your spine is flexible!" What does that mean? Age is measured by the flexibility of the spine: to stay young, stay flexible. When we consistently activate the potent energy of Kundalini in our body, it works on many different levels from the cellular to the etheric. It has been known to keep the body.mind.spirit very healthy, activated, fully oxygenated, and vibrant making way for unconditional joy and health in the body.

This basic spinal  series is perfect for anyone, whether you are a seasoned yogi/yogini or a novice, this set of exercises (also called a "kriya") will activate your kundalini energy and get you moving towards where you want to be. 

Basic Spinal Series

Age is measured by the flexibility of the spine: to stay young, stay flexible. This series works systematically from the base of the spine to the top. All 26 vertebrae receive stimulation and all the chakras receive a burst of energy. This makes it a good series to do before meditation. Many people report greater mental clarity after regular practice of this kriya. A contributing factor is the increased circulation of the spinal fluid, which is crucially linked to having a good memory. In a beginner’s class, each exercise that lists 108 repetitions can be done 24 times. The rest periods are then extended from 1 to 2 minutes.
