The Calm after the Storm
"You owe it to yourself to BE yourself" Yogi Bhajan
Hi, Its been ten months since my adventure began here in Las Vegas and I figured now would be a good time to introduce what I have been up too. I never thought I’d be spending much time in the “Sin City” and always wondered how a few of my dear friends “did it” living here. But now I know, I know that it too has a huge need and capacity for growth, transformation and healing. Like every other place does on the planet. The nonprofit my partners and I formed, Inner Peace Initiative (IPI), responded on October 13th, 2017 to help survivors and specifically the 1st Responder Community heal post the horrific shooting that occurred on 1 October, 2017. 58 people lost their lives that horrible night and over 500 people were injured. Over 22,000 attendee’s of the Route 91 Music Festival experienced something that no human being should ever be exposed too. Needless to say, the mental health and well-being of those impacted became a very big priority. On October 13th, we were introduced to the staff of the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner by a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. employee’s assistance program (PEAP). After that introduction occurred, it didn’t take long to realize that these unique people see things everyday that 99% of the earth’s population will never see in their entire lifetime. It was quite humbling. The process started immediately beginning with serving only the Clark County Coroner Staff and seeing immediate participation. The other 1st Responder Agencies in Las Vegas (Clark County) with additional responders such as The Health Department and The Department of Family Services to name a few. We are currently providing various mediations to over a dozen locations throughout Clark County and the response? Gratitude. It's brought back memories of my time in New York City during 9.11 and I wish I'd had folks dropping in to guide meditations during that time. We are very excited that we’ve initiated a research project that has been developed through the partnership of IPI, The Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner and the school of medicine at UNLV. This research project is going to attempt to use scientific data to measure the physiological effects meditation can have on people who have experienced a traumatic incident. Many of you have contacted me to learn how to provide meditation services to Coroner’s/Medical Examiners, other 1st Responders and various government agencies across the country. Part of our research project aims to include a road map which would direct meditation professionals across the country to learn how to become integrated into the mental health and wellness services provided by these agencies. Finally... Let it be so! Feeling deep gratitude for the opportunities being given here in Las Vegas and to be a witness to the transformation that is occurring in these given agencies. More to come soon! I've got lots of goodies to share with you. This summer has been FULL ON! Be in touch! All love Catherine
